Built for impact: How making a difference guides The Martin Group’s present—and future – The Martin Group
Across The Martin Group’s many positions, departments, or geographic locations, we acknowledge—and celebrate—our many differences.
But no matter the things we don’t have in common, there’s one thing that ties our staff together: our desire to make an impact for our clients, associates, and communities.
It’s an idea that Tod, Lisa, Matt, and many of our longest tenured staff members have passed down to every new employee who walks through our doors. Making a difference—through the work we do or across the communities we represent—means everything. It’s one significant way we measure our success, and ultimately, find a type of satisfaction that’s not always measured on our performance reviews or financial reports.
This is who we’ve always been as an agency, whether working with nonprofits and healthcare companies, supporting causes important to our clients, or volunteering to efforts across Western New York and beyond. But with the launch of our The Difference is Making One (DIMO) initiative in 2022, we put an official name on our collective belief that small changes can make a big difference. Conceived by our executive staff and integrated teams, it now stands as an internal brand that represents the true fiber of our fabric and guides us forward.
And since we’re spending these days celebrating how far we’ve come in the past 25 years, it’s also important to recognize what comes next.
That’s where DIMO comes in.
As we find our direction forward, it’s important to have an overarching guide for our agency to help direct our culture and focus. Work can change. Client needs and trends and technologies can change. But through all the shifts and shakes of the industry, we need to have a guiding light to ensure we are aligned with the values of our staff, our clients, and the evolution of what The Martin Group is and will be.
Having our attention on making the smallest or most significant of differences provides this light, and allows us to use our partnerships and platforms to make an impact—and put a nice chunk of good into the world through the many facets of our work.
In our workplace, we pursue DIMO through the creation and maintenance of a collaborative atmosphere. This comes alive via support across all departments, putting talented people together to deliver the best results, and making sure our offices and associates are connected despite, in some cases, being physically separated. We know we can make the biggest difference working together, not in silos, and we engage in this collaboration on every project we pursue or execute.
Externally, we support our initiative within our communities, serving others through volunteerism, listening to our associates’ charitable requests, and hearing what’s important to them. We also strive to do the very best work for our clients who, quite literally, feed (via food and beverage services), clothe (sports/lifestyle), keep well (healthcare), educate (education), and financially support (financial services) those in need. We can use our expertise to extend these clients’ work, and with every campaign or creation, we aim to do this.
It’s also about putting what we do into perspective with an increased emphasis on work-life balance. This means celebrating family milestones along with work successes, and ensuring we are supporting staff even when they are off the clock. It’s an extension of recognizing that the smallest things can have the biggest impact, and we want to make sure we’re living these beliefs.
Work is a major part of our lives. We spend a tremendous amount of time at our jobs, so enjoying where you work—and being a big part of what your company stands for—is incredibly important. But to do so, it takes a consistent effort and strong leadership.
As we look forward and past these 25 years of endurance and accomplishments, it’s critical that we at The Martin Group continue to create a space for our associates that is more than just selling a product or service. We want our teams to believe in the work we’re executing while understanding that, outside our offices and press events and Teams meetings, there’s more we can do. We want to be able to support our friends, colleagues, and neighbors using the resources at our disposal and with the abilities we have.
And we can do this. We’ve been doing it for 25 years.
But now that we’ve branded it—sorry, but it’s what we do here—we’re excited to make an even bigger impact for our clients and communities for years to come.
