10 Years at The Martin Group: Lisa Braun

10 Years at The Martin Group: Lisa Braun – The Martin Group

Congratulations on 10 years with The Martin Group. What has been your favorite part about working here?

Lisa Braun: My favorite part is working with so many talented and smart people over the years.

How has your typical workday changed over the past decade?

LB: I started off [in this business] 38 years ago in an accounts payable department, and now I oversee everything that has to do with our accounting department’s day-to-day activity.

What’s the biggest challenge in your position, and how do you handle these challenges on a weekly basis?

LB: The biggest challenge is making sure we are billing for all the work we are doing for a client.  Estimates and working closely with the great Account Service team helps me a lot. On the flip side of that is keeping a healthy cash flow, enabled by collecting on the invoicing we send out. Cash is king!

Is there an industry development you’re particularly excited about? If so, what is it, and why does it interest you?

LB: Reporting and how we can analyze any area of our business is a great development to look at and consider.

You’ve had a few days off in your 10 years here. What would your ideal day off look like, wake up to bedtime?

LB: My ideal day off would be spending it with my granddaughter, Tessa; and then at night, joining friends to listen to a band outside somewhere.

Finally, if you met someone who hoped to find success in a position like yours, what’s the one piece of critical advice you’d offer to them?

LB: Be very detailed about anything in accounting, and double check your work. Be a team player because a job is not only your day to day—it’s about helping your fellow employees when they need it.
