Carver Companies - The Martin Group

Challenge

Carver Companies plays a critical role in New York’s Capital Region. As owner and operator of the Port of Coeymans, the company supports major infrastructure projects, marine transport, offshore wind manufacturing, and winter road safety operations. Despite decades of economic impact, Carver remained largely unknown to elected officials, business leaders, and regional media. When coverage did appear, it often amplified a small group of local detractors. That perception gap began threatening high-stakes, strategic-growth initiatives. Carver engaged The Martin Group to shift sentiment, establish credibility, and ensure its story was told with context and authority.

Solution

We identified a core issue: Carver had proof of impact but no sustained narrative presence. Our strategy centered on proactive relationship-building
with mission-critical media outlets, including the Albany Times Union, Albany Business Review, and Ravena News-Herald. We secured executive interviews, negotiated exclusives, and positioned complex announcements to land as signals of growth rather than controversy. We activated around defining moments, such as the 370-nautical-mile Erie Canal transport of the Ralph Wilson Park pedestrian bridge. The Martin Group provided executive counsel, messaging development, spokesperson preparation, media tours, embargo management, award nominations, and on-site support, ensuring Carver’s expansion was framed within broader regional progress.

Results

In less than a year, Carver moved from reactive to respected. Coverage more than doubled year over year, with sentiment shifting decisively positive. Major infrastructure and energy stories ran prominently across regional broadcast, business, and daily outlets. Carver Companies now enters major public conversations with visibility, allies, and momentum.
