You will be responsible for supporting the Public Affairs Team (PA Team) in the concept of ideas and strategies to help clients meet agreed upon objectives and maintain a favorable public image. You will help clients increase their media presence and effectively communicate with the public.

Primary Responsibilities
- With support from more senior members of the PA team, concepts ideas and strategies for the client in order to maintain a favorable public image with an aim at increasing their media presence and/or effectively communicating with the public
- Maintains a basic understanding of the political and business landscape regionally, statewide, and nationally
- Studies the objectives, promotional policies, or needs of organizations to develop PA tactics that will influence public opinion or promote ideas, initiatives, or issues
- Assists in developing creative ideas based on input from more senior members of the PA team, clients, and personal research, as well as adherence to content strategy goals and assignment due dates
- Approaches problems as opportunities. Asks questions, takes initiative, and volunteers creative solutions to assist the client in solving high stakes issues.
- Attends networking and media events and meets with suppliers and partner organizations to discuss aspects of PA campaigns and activities.
- Drafts, edits and distributes press releases, media advisories, scripts, speeches, talking points, blog content, social media postings, strategy memos, and other internal/external Public Affairs content
- Contacts reporters, producers, and editors who may create stories from the press releases or pitches
- Organizes promotional or community-centered programs and events
- Coordinates with the PA Manager to determine budget and manage expenses to that budget
- Maintains relationships with news media, consumers, government, local communities and other public interest groups
- Leads research for optimal targets. Provides input on proposal copy.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Researches new communication trends and applying technology on behalf of clients and Agency to positively influence outreach and engagement efforts
Skills and Abilities
- Communicates effectively in person, virtually, via email, and via the telephone with both the client and the agency’s Public Affairs team on specific projects
- Ability to write content, copy and messaging in variety of styles, voices and tones, adaptable to different target audiences or branding initiatives
- Ability to synthesize and write about new concepts, news stories, and topics both on-brand and in a timely manner
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines, surpass client expectations, and demonstrate competence and discretion at all times.
- Knowledge of news and digital trends and tactics, with the ability to mobilize audience participation and engagement, and develop content and editorial pieces
- Proficient with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other Social Media sites
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, Dropbox, and other such tools
- Collaborates effectively internally and cross departmentally to reach Agency objectives
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Creative Writing, Communications, Journalism, Poli Sci, History or equivalent work experience required
- 1 year proven writing and editing experience in a Public Affairs or communications role
Salary Range: $45,000 – $60,000
