Congratulations on 10 years with The Martin Group. What does that tenure mean to you?
In some sense, these past 10 years have absolutely flown by. But at the same time, I also feel lucky to have been able to step back at times and enjoy the experience and the multitude of key agency and client moments that have taken place.
When originally making the decision to join my small firm with The Martin Group back in 2015, I didn’t necessarily know exactly where The Martin Group was headed—but we believed that opportunity was brimming for us everywhere.
What many folks don’t get a chance to see is the trust, care, and confidence that exists among our partnership group, senior leadership, and department heads. I’m constantly blown away by the level of talent that exists within our shop at all levels of the organization. We ask associates to embrace our culture, and they do. We ask them to constantly strive to get better, and they do. And we ask them to always give their best to our clients. And if that best isn’t good enough, their motivation to try and improve is ever-present.
I’m so grateful to be part of this unique partnership with Tod Martin, Lisa Bellacicco, and the Hearst Corporation that allows us to chart our own independent agency destiny, with the full faith and support of an iconic global corporation.
What is your favorite part about being at The Martin Group?
My colleagues and clients. I’ve never struggled to find daily motivation and have experienced so much fulfillment in seeing young colleagues hone their craft and develop into leaders and outstanding integrated marketing professionals, both within our walls and outside of the agency.
I also love seeing the agency be there when our clients need us the most. We’ve been around so many jubilant moments (but also some unbelievably tragic ones), and I never get numb to the fact that we often play a small, but significant role in the success and sustainability of so many organizations and businesses, big and small.
What is your perfect day at work?
Early coffee—lots of it. Twenty minutes to scour as many online news sources as possible, along with a print newspaper or two. Connecting with agency managers on their efforts to coach-up associates and make an impact. A couple client or new business connects or meetings to hear more about their status or needs, and to just to say hi.
Probably some more coffee, and maybe a client communication crisis or two (but no more than two!) to keep the juices flowing and provide variety. And a couple moments of inspiration, be it seeing a team member receive much due recognition or watching them flourish in their positions and the way they guide our clients.
These days happen more often than not—and are all part of what makes working at The Martin Group so unique.
