Five years at The Martin Group: Kelly Lucyszyn, Account Supervisor

Congratulations on five years with The Martin Group. What has been your favorite part about working here?

Kelly Lucyszyn: It sounds trite, but the people — both colleagues and the client. Everyone is collaborative, trusting, and happy to be here, even on the craziest days. The agency champions work-life balance and celebrates everyone’s unique skills. And while I work with just one client, I feel like we have built a true partnership with them over the years and are more an extension of their company than just an outside agency, which has been incredibly fulfilling.

How has your typical workday changed over the past five years?

KL: I get to enjoy working one-on-one with more and more people on my client’s team, which has streamlined processes and communication. We have come to understand their brand and internal dynamics so well that we have gone from twice-daily meetings to just a few per week, and are still able to deliver on all of their needs.

What’s the biggest challenge in your position, and how do you handle these challenges on a weekly basis?

KL: Balancing the needs of the client and the needs of our team. We are often tasked with work on a very tight timeline, with sometimes just hours to turn around a project. Clear communication and aligning on expectations with the client is key to keeping the team from getting bogged down or anxious. Thankfully, this amazing squad is exceptionally nimble, but aligning on timing or the ask of a job is critical.

Do you have a client project or two that made a memorable impression on you? If so, what were they, and why were they so special?

KL: The opening of a new store in New York City a while back. It was a large-scale project that broke the boundaries of much of the client’s typical brand and offered the team an opportunity to think about the interior and exterior space in a new way.

You’ve had a few days off in your five years here. What would your ideal day off look like, wake up to bedtime?

KL: Well, first I would wake up in Oxford, England. A few cups of coffee outside on a terrace overlooking the city of dreaming spires. Then a day trip through the Cotswolds. Lunch in a quaint pub with a low ceiling and dark, worn-wood beams where I would sit planning a long weekend away with my husband and children to Galway or Dublin. Then an afternoon exploring cathedrals, castles, and ruins. We would cap off the day with a lovely dinner amid live music and laughter, and an evening cozied up watching Inspector Lewis or Midsomer Murders.

Finally, if you met someone who hoped to find success in a position like yours, what’s the one piece of critical advice you’d offer to them?

KL: Listen. Listen to the client and listen to your team. And listen in that way where it is not just your ears, but your intuition that hears what is needed — and what is not needed. Trust your gut.To meet more of our team at The Martin Group, click here
